Greeting
cards are a means of sending a warm cheerful message to friends and family. The
normal two sided greeting card has evolved into what is today known as pop-up cards. This is a three dimensional paper
that is cut and glued together to form a pop-up. It combines the art of
origami, which is folding paper, and paper engineering.
Creating pop-up greeting cards is done in
most junior schools as a craft work. However the cards for sale are more
detailed and intricate. They require a team of skilled workers to separately
work on the pieces that are eventually glued together to form the final piece.
Some cards
are so detailed and neatly cut that they are considered art work. Some have
called it the next generation of paper art. The designs that are chosen for a
card are meticulously created by a group of architectural designers that later
send the design to be cut by laser machine. This is because some of the pop-up
pieces are so small that absolute precision is needed when cutting it.
The pop-up cards design mostly comes readymade but
the card can also be customized upon demand. The client can deal with the
designers first hand and tell them of their vision. The designers will then
turn that vision into paper.
SUMMARY
